Launching Anmat: A Data-Driven Initiative to Analyze Media Narratives

(Cairo) – Anmat Team

Today, Anmat initiative launched its official website (www.Anmat.media), as an independent project aimed at using machine learning algorithms and quantitative analysis tools to uncover patterns and framings in media coverage of various events.

The launch of the website marks the first step in a longer journey that seeks to empower journalists and researchers with open tools and datasets to help them build deeper insights into media framing and bias.

Anmat is a research and journalism initiative that transforms media coverage into quantitative, analyzable data through text mining and statistical analysis, applied using machine learning algorithms.

The initiative emerged from an independent analytical project that focused on studying framing bias in English-language media coverage in the Global North of events in Gaza between October 2023 and October 2024. The study analyzed more than 25,000 articles from 16 online news outlets in the United States and Europe.

The website launched today serves as an introduction to the initiative and its goals. In the coming period, Anmat will release its first full-scale project and publish the datasets and analyses developed by the team in collaboration with journalists and researchers.

Anmat aims to build an open data library on how media outlets cover global and regional issues, provide practical support for journalists and researchers through workshops and specialized training, and foster partnerships with research institutions and newsrooms committed to journalistic innovation.

Anmat invites journalists, researchers, media organizations, and academic institutions to collaborate—whether by following its upcoming data releases and analyses, joining research and training partnerships, or producing stories based on its work.
